Blossom and pretty villages along idyllic river
Distance: 41 or 35 km
This picturesque route takes you through the Betuwe region, famous for its fruit production. The meandering River Linge is flanked with orchards and pretty villages. Highlight of the year is when the fruit trees are in bloom from the second half of April to the beginning of May. But don’t worry if you can’t make it then, the route is lovely in all seasons.
From Geldermalsen you follow the south bank of the River Linge to Leerdam, the city of glass works. Here you cross the river and head back along the north bank to Geldermalsen. The pretty villages with typical Dutch houses built on the dyke, colourful gardens, lovely countryside, orchards, windmills and fortresses make this part of the River Linge extremely popular with Dutch cyclists. There is a lot to see and do along this route. And as there is train line on the north side of the river it is easy to adapt the length of the route to your needs. This makes it an ideal route to do with children.
