This route takes you around the south part of the Wadden Island of Texel, popular for its beaches, nature reserves and rich maritime history. Highlights of the route are Dunes of Texel National Park and the Wadden Sea, which was made a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 2009.

The route takes you from the seaside village De Koog through Dunes of Texel National Park to the village of Den Hoorn. A short detour takes you to the newly forming dunes on the south point of the island. From ‘t Horntje you follow the dyke to the 16th-century fort De Schans and the historic harbour of Oudeschild. Via the ‘old land’ around De Hoge Berg, Den Burg and the old Waal en Burgerdijk, you return to De Koog where you can end your trip with a visit to the beach.

This route can be combined with the Texel North Cycle Route, giving you a 56 km-trip (3h45) around the whole island of Texel. You can download this combined route as a GPX file.
