Many cyclists will have wondered at one time or another what it would be like to cycle over a vast expanse of tarmac such as a four-lane motorway, or maybe even a runway on an airfield. This weekend we had the opportunity to find out at the former military airbase of Soesterberg where the old runway has been turned into possibly the broadest cycle path ever.
Cyclists, young and old, came to test ride the new cycle path-cum-runway. Being given literally enough space for a fighter jet, nobody quite knew where to cycle. On the left, on the right, or simply in the middle? But with so much space, who cares about traffic rules anyway... Here is a photo impression.
