Cycle routes in English
Holland-Cycling.com offers day trips targeted at cyclists from abroad, in English. The routes combine touristic highlights with other places of cultural, historical, natural or seasonal interest which often don’t feature in regular guide books. Make sure you check out this section regularly, as there are many more routes to come!
Photos
Photos are an integral part of the site, as one picture says more than a thousand words. In fact, Holland-Cycling.com started off as an excuse for the makers to go out more on their bikes and take lots of photos. The many photos on the site give a taste of what cycling in Holland is really like.
Reviews and Blog
The Reviews section is all about helping cyclists from abroad make a choice that’s right for them. For example: How suitable is a cycle route or map for cyclists from abroad? The Blog focuses on the ‘nice to knows’, which may be anything from Dutch cycling news to the Dutch cycling culture. We like topics that make us smile about ourselves and our cycling culture! Holland-Cycling.com went online in October 2013 and since then there have been many positive reactions.
The people behind Holland-Cycling.com
Holland-Cycling.com is made by experienced cyclists who know the ins and outs of cycling in Holland. They go out on their bike as much as possible to take photos, discover new routes and talk to other cyclists to hear what they have to say. The website is the result of this.
Hilary Staples is the editor of this site. She was born in the UK, but moved to Holland with her parents and her tricycle at a young age. Here she soon progressed to her first ‘big bicycle’ with training wheels! After cycling back and forth to school for many years, Hilary was up for something more adventurous. So after school she started exploring the area by bicycle.
Hilary's first cycling holiday to the Wadden Island of Texel left a lasting impression. That sense of exhilaration and freedom when reaching the other end of Holland all by yourself. Battling against the wind in the open polders. Not giving up. It was the first of many an enjoyable cycling holidays in Holland and abroad. Cycling abroad made Hilary realise how lucky the Dutch are to have so many fantastic cycling opportunities literally on their doorstep. How could she have taken something so unique for granted? She hopes to pass her enthusiasm on to you through this website.
Steven Staples is the webmaster of this site. He is 100% Dutch. Like so many Dutch children, Steven was taken on his first cycle rides by his parents. Later he explored most of the country by bicycle on family holidays. Nowadays the bicycle is his everyday means of transport. Steven is a keen photographer. Whenever he can lay his hands on the camera, he also takes photos for this site.
