This route takes you through the extensive woods and heathland of the Veluwe, an area of outstanding natural beauty extremely popular with cyclists. It’s one of the few places in Holland where you can see wild boar and red deer. Highlight of the route is Het Loo Palace, once the residence of the Dutch royal family, the House of Oranje-Nassau.

You cycle along the Apeldoorns Kanaal towards Het Loo Palace. From here the route takes you through woods and open heathland areas to the ancient settlement of Hoog Buurlo, Radio Kootwijk and the villages of Assel and Hoog Soeren. Via the hunting grounds in the Royal Forest, you return to the centre of Apeldoorn. The route is at its best from August to September when the heather blooms in splendid shades of purple and in October when you can enjoy the autumn colours.
